About

Hi, I’m Catherine Raeff and I have loved writing since I was a child. I enjoy talking about writing and I want to help people with their writing. From childhood through college (BA, Johns Hopkins University) and graduate school (PhD, Clark University), I wrote letters, papers, and essays. As a psychology professor for 26 years, I published numerous articles and three books. I reviewed and edited for journals and academic presses. And I provided feedback to innumerable students on innumerable papers. I am now writing essays about complexity and psychology. Besides writing, I like to travel, read, ride my bike uphill, and take quirky photos with my iPhone.

My approach to writing consulting is holistic and developmental. That means treating you as a unique whole person with many facets and characteristics who is developing in varied ways. One facet of who you are is that you write. The goal is to help you develop as a writer with individualized and compassionate feedback, guidance, and support. I firmly believe that there is not one right way to write, and we will work together to identify ways of writing that enable you to develop your writing skills.

I know that writing can be daunting and that very talented people often struggle to write. Maybe you dread sitting down to write and maybe you procrastinate by doing the dishes. Maybe you feel overwhelmed by your topic and you don’t know where to start, so you don’t start. As we work together, we will talk about these kinds of process issues and identify ways for you to overcome writing obstacles and develop as a writer.
